A Visionary is Gone – Remembering Steve Jobs

We believe that innovation is the future and so did the visionary we called Steve Jobs.  His influence can be felt throughout the world and will continue to be felt for years to come. He touched those from all walks of life, whether you are a business man, a student or a stay at home mother; you will have experienced the immense change he brought to the world. His positive attitude and unrelenting desire to succeed drove Apple to new heights and delivered us inventions we could only ever dream about.

Here are a few revolutionary “Apple” ideas that helped change the way we use technology:

  • Introduced the first personal computer with a GUI (graphical user interface), mouse and voice feedback
  • Standardizing 3½ inch floppy disk drives into computers
  • Created the first affordable laser printer (anything less than $10,000 at the time) and it even sat on a desk
  • Changed the standard drive again with the implementation of CD Rom drives
  • Ushered in the era of sleek designed computers with the iMac
  • Made the fledging tablet market relevant with the release of the iPad

Aside from being an exceptional inventor, Steve Jobs was a great public speaker, one who could make you smile, laugh and cry all at once. Perhaps his most eye opening speech was to the Stanford commencement address of 2005 where he went on to say…

“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Innovation is the key to continued growth and Steve knew that was the key to success. At Global, we constantly look for creative ways to change, solve problems and find solutions just like Steve did. We feel we have lost a great leader who pushed everyone to live their lives to the fullest and succeed in ways they never thought were possible.

“Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower” – Steve Jobs
